The School of Mathematical and Natural Sciences inside Arizona State University is seeking Faculty Associates for a general faculty hiring pool to teach courses at the ASU California Center located in downtown Los Angeles, CA. The successful candidate(s) will teach in-person and/or online courses, prepare course materials, evaluate student work, and assist students. Individuals employed as Faculty Associates may not hold multiple, non-benefits eligible appointments at Arizona State University.

Days and Schedule:  Varies.

Faculty Associate positions are one semester, non-benefits-eligible, fixed-term appointments with no tenure implications, not to exceed an average of .40 FTE per semester. The number of courses is contingent upon unit needs, funding, and sufficient enrollment. Salary is based on qualifications and assigned teaching load.

Essential Functions of the Position:

  • Teach courses in relevant areas;
  • Prepare syllabus, appropriate course goals and objectives, and lesson plans;
  • Evaluate and select course materials and other teaching materials;
  • Prepare, administer, and grade assignments;
  • Administer written mid-term and/or final exams;
  • Hold two weekly office hours at appropriate times.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s or higher degree in Applied Computing, Applied Mathematics, Biochemistry, Biology, Business Administration (with emphasis in area relevant to courses to be taught), Chemistry, Computer Science, Environmental Science, Geology, Mathematics, Medicine, Microbiology, Pharmacology, Toxicology, Physics, Statistics, or related field at the time of hire

  • Effective communication and organizational skills
  • Experience in online instruction
  • Record of teaching excellence
  • Doctoral degree preferred
  • Relevant Industry Experience
  • Demonstrated commitment to working successfully with a diverse student population, including first-generation college students
