Captain -Bartender Job Description:

 

Position Title: Captain Bartender

FLSA Classification: Non-exempt

Reports To: General Manager

Department: Front of House- Bar

 

Job Summary:

The Captain Bartender is responsible for overseeing the bar service, providing exceptional guest service, and ensuring the seamless coordination of service between the FOH and kitchen teams. The Captain Bartender must create a memorable bar experience for guests and lead by example to maintain a high level of service excellence.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Directly supervises all bartenders and barbacks.

 

Essential Functions / Major Responsibilities:

·       Provide exceptional guest service to ensure a memorable bar experience for guests.

·       Oversee the bar team, including scheduling, training, and mentoring.

·       Ensure timely delivery of beverages, coordinating effectively with the kitchen and FOH teams. Manage guest inquiries, complaints, and special requests, resolving issues promptly and effectively.

·       Maintain a high level of knowledge regarding the bar menu, beer, wine, and daily specials.

·       Train and mentor junior FOH staff to ensure a high level of service excellence. Perform opening and closing duties, including setting up and breaking down the bar and performing cleaning tasks.

·       Communicate effectively with FOH and kitchen staff to ensure a seamless dining experience for guests.

·       Adhere to all food safety and sanitation standards and regulations.

·       Perform other related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

·       High school diploma or equivalent required.

·       Minimum of 3 years of experience as a bartender in a fine dining establishment, with at least 1 year in a supervisory role.

·       Knowledge of wine and beverage service preferred.

 

Work Environment:

·       The environment requires the team member to work inside in a temperature-controlled environment.

·       Required to work weekends and irregular hours.

·       Requires working under stressful conditions.

·       Must be able to work safely in a noisy area.

 

Physical Requirements:

·       Must be physically able to stand for long periods, up to 10 hours a day.

·       Must be able to work on your feet for extended periods.

·       Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time.

·       Requires maintenance of the bar, changing kegs, and other additional tasks.
