CUSTODIAN
Definition
The Custodian is responsible for performing a variety of cleaning and minor maintenance tasks in a school building and on school grounds; performs related duties as required. This position is for second-shift hours and is over-time eligible.
Examples of Work
Sweeps, mops, scrubs, waxes, and buffs floors in classrooms, stairs, and hallways; vacuums and shampoos carpets and rugs; operates floor buffer and wet pick-up machines;
Washes walls, windows, and ceilings; dusts and polishes furniture, woodwork, and window sills; cleans radiator surfaces;
Sanitizes fixtures in restrooms, drinking fountains, and wash basins;
Replaces hand towels, toilet tissue, and soap in restrooms; replaces burned out light bulbs and tubes; replenishes classroom supplies;
Empties trash and recycling receptacles;
Moves and rearranges furniture as directed for student events, extracurricular activities, civic meetings, and other events;
Picks up and/or replaces broken glass, unstops toilets, oils motors on fans, and performs other minor maintenance work;
Mows and trims grass, trims shrubbery, weeds planting areas, and rakes leaves;
Shovels snow from sidewalks and entrances; sweeps sidewalks and picks up trash or litter on school grounds;
Cleans and performs minor maintenance to equipment, machinery, and tools used to perform custodial tasks;
Locks and unlocks buildings, rooms, and windows as instructed; inspects building before leaving to ensure building and access points are locked;
May serve as the Head Custodian and assume the duties of the Head Custodian in his/her absence.
Minimum Qualifications
One (1) year of custodial experience.
Substitution(s): Possession of a certificate from a vocational custodial services program may be substituted for experience requirement provided there were a minimum of 270 class hours completed.
Training will be for 7-10 days. Training is PAID!!
