Job Description
The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the Missouri University of Science and Technology (Missouri S&T) in Rolla, Missouri seeks outstanding applicants for a full-time, non-tenure-track, assistant or associate Professional Practice Professor in Mechanical Engineering. Applicants are sought who can apply their expertise in manufacturing processes and technologies to focus on areas of undergraduate education, especially in additive manufacturing, reverse engineering, metrology, GD&T, sustainability in manufacturing, and experiential learning.

Performance Objectives
  • Teach undergraduate courses related to manufacturing in our Mechanical Engineering program
  • Develop and improve courses in manufacturing related areas
  • Expand and support experiential learning opportunities in the manufacturing curriculum
  • Coordinate academic engagement among the Department's external partners, including technical schools and community colleges
  • Work with the Director for the Kummer Center for Advanced Manufacturing and the MAE Department to integrate experiential learning activities at the Protoplex, a new $100M center for manufacturing innovation at Missouri S&T
  • Create/coordinate co-curricular and extra-curricular opportunities with regional manufacturers
  • Provide service to the university, including developing mutually beneficial relationships with industry partners
  • Participate in ABET / ETAC accreditation
The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering is the largest department at Missouri S&T, and each of its degree programs is the largest in Missouri. The department has a long-established record of excellence in research, with five junior faculty having received CAREER and DoD Young Investigator awards in the last ten years. Research grants received in FY23 exceeded $14,000,000. Several Ph.D. students have received prestigious fellowships from NASA, NSF, and DoD. The department is also proud of its many award-winning teachers, and deeply values excellence in the classroom. The department includes 23 internationally recognized tenured/tenure-track faculty, 9 teaching faculty, 11 staff members, over 150 graduate students (including 80 Ph.D. students), over 1,000 undergraduate students, and over 12,000 living alumni. Applicants must provide evidence of (a) industrial experience in manufacturing, (b) high-quality teaching at the undergraduate levels, and (c) commitment to increasing the intellectual pluralism of the student body and faculty. Qualified candidates will possess a Master's or (preferably) Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field.
