Duties & Responsibilities:
The successful candidates must be a High School Graduate;
have ten (10) years of responsible work experience in law enforcement to include three (3) years at a supervisory level of sergeant.
The Lieutenant must be able to work evening or midnight shifts; possess a valid State issued driver's license; ability to meet Maryland Police Correctional Training Commission (MPCTC) and institutional proficiency requirements.
Other Preferences for Consideration
The preferred candidate will have and Associates/Bachelor's Degree from an accredited College or University in Law Enforcement, Criminology or related field and at least 3 years of experience as a certified University police sergeant.
Other preferences include: ability to show sensitivity in interactions with a diverse population; ability to maintain composure and demonstrate appropriate professionalism and restraint at all times; ability to comprehend laws, ordinances, rules, and regulations; skill in detecting situations imperiling public safety; skill in the care and use of firearms, self-defense tools and criminal detection devices; ability to respond to situations requiring physical stamina and force; ability to provide guidance and training by supervising others; ability to sit, drive, stand, walk, climb, and run for sustained periods of time; ability to work in and wear personal protective equipment.

Job Duties
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Providing public safety services for the University;
- Assisting in the planning, organizing, directing and managing of Law Enforcement and Security Personnel Field Programs;
- Overseeing shift operations, monitoring and evaluation the performance of subordinate police and security personnel;
- Maintaining leave records on all assigned officers; assisting in the management of field operations and activities of police officers and security guards;
- Maintaining and processing crime statistic reports; participating in non-routine criminal and internal investigations;
- Coordinating trainings according to the Maryland Police Training Commission Standards; acting as liaison with outside law enforcement and regulatory agencies;
- Reviewing incident reports generated by the department;
- Providing testimony in University disciplinary hearings and legal proceedings;
- Conducting formal uniform inspections semi-annually;
- Enforcing University rules and regulations as specified in departmental standard operating procedures;
- Organizing and arranging hearing boards as prescribed by LEOBR when authorized by the Chief of Police;
- Managing voucher evidence using the recommended procedures for securing evidence, to ensure the chain of procession and evidence integrity;
- Acting as the first responder to alarms, calls for service and medical emergencies that require the potential use of a defibrillator or other first-aid techniques;
- Conduction patrols of campus premises and performing other duties as assigned.
