Description of Work

NOTE:  An employee appointed to a position which will require the services of an employee, up to 40 hours per week, to perform seasonal work activities for a continuous period not exceeding one-hundred and twenty (120) calendar days and a maximum of 230 hours.

An employee in this class performs, coordinates assigned work crews in a variety of park security, custodial and maintenance activities at Pioneer and Meinert County Parks under the general supervision of higher level park personnel. The Park Crew Leader, oversees Park Rangers as they patrol areas to insure safe and orderly use of park facilities, processes registrations and accepts fees, grooms beaches, cleans camp sites and assists in routine maintenance activities. Employees in this class may be required to work any of three shifts including weekends and holidays and perform related duties as assigned.

Required Minimum Entrance Qualifications

1.  Must be a high school graduate or have successfully completed the General Education Development Test (GED); AND
Have one (1) season (3 calendar months) of paid work experience in a public parks agency or related field which shall include the use and maintenance of park equipment.
2.  Must be at least 18 years of age.
3.  Must possess a valid driver's license.

Physical Conditions / Work Location

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES
A Park Crew Leader must be in good physical condition such to allow for extensive walking, climbing, pulling and moving objects weighing fifty (50) pounds or more, working in various weather conditions, and ability to perform physical labor.
 
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
Employees in this class, while working out of park headquarters, generally work outdoors in all types of weather conditions.

EVALUATION CONTENT
The selected candidate must take a post-offer medical examination (including back screen and complete physical) and drug screening test given by a County appointed physician before the first day of employment.  An offer of employment is contingent upon the results of the medical examination and drug screening test.  Applicants for County employment may be subject to a post-offer criminal background check, depending on the nature and assignment of the position. When such check is conducted, an offer of employment is contingent upon the results of the criminal background check.  Appointees must satisfactorily complete a probationary period before the appointment will be considered permanent.

PURPOSE
The purpose of this recruitment is to establish an eligible list from which to fill present and future vacancies in this classification in the County system.  For each opening, the Department Head has her/his choice of the candidates who meet the required minimum entrance qualifications.  This list remains in effect for three months unless exhausted or extended.
