Job Description Summary:
The Department of Population Health seeks candidates of exceptional potential and emerging scholarship to enhance our research and educational portfolio in health outcomes, health services research, and health finance. Multiple hires possible for 12-mos, full time tenure-track positions for first time or late Assistant Professor. Mid-career investigators also considered.

Located in the School of Medicine, the Department provides a robust, interdisciplinary environment in an academic medical center setting. With faculty on three campuses - Kansas City, Wichita, Salina - the Department is the academic home for nationally-ranked, accredited graduate educational programs leading to the MHSA and MPH, as well as the MSCR and PhD. We are committed to addressing rural and urban health inequities through strong partnerships with community organizations, government agencies, health systems and other parties in diverse communities and across the care delivery continuum in the rapidly growing, multicultural Mid-West context. We seek faculty eager to build collaborations with our clinician colleagues, the University of Kansas Health System, and other community health systems caring for our diverse regional catchment area.

Competitive candidates will have a demonstrable content expertise and teaching capabilities in health services research, such as utilization management, outcomes assessment, healthcare payment systems; healthcare financing (Medicare/Medicaid); economic evaluation and quality of care; cost-effectiveness and cost-benefit analysis. Familiarity with state and federal datasets, system-level EHR or experience using other clinical information systems for research is an asset. In addition to a strong record of partnership with state and regional health authorities, the Department has access to exceptional campus resources to support diverse community engagement and recruitment, quantitative analytics and health informatics. Opportunities abound for collaboration through KUMC's Frontiers Clinical & Translational Science Institute, the KU School of Health Professions, School of Nursing, KU Alzheimer's Disease Center, and the KU Cancer Center, an NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center. Joint or secondary appointments for clinicians are possible.

Job Description:

Required Qualifications

Education: Doctorate or equivalent with analytic training in population health (e.g. nursing, medicine or public health; health-related behavioral or social sciences)

Work Experience:
  • Record of scholarship in peer-reviewed publications, appropriate to rank.
  • History of commitment to interdisciplinary, graduate teaching and mentoring in respective methods and areas of expertise.
  • Potential for extramural funding via participation in recent grants and/or contracts, appropriate to rank as evidenced by application materials


Preferred Qualifications

Work Experience:
  • Experience supervising and mentoring doctoral students.
  • Evidence of principal investigator status.
  • Evidence of effective teaching relevant to master's level courses in health finance and/or health economics

Skills: Demonstrable research focus in health services, especially health outcomes assessment, health finance or policy analysis

  • Maintain an ongoing program of research and training, with external funding, appropriate to expertise.
  • Collaborate with other faculty members via interdisciplinary research teams.
  • Teach and participate in graduate courses and curriculum development.
  • Participate in the intellectual life of the Department and School of Medicine, e.g. faculty and departmental committees and activities. Provide other service to the school, university, profession, and community, as appropriate.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Chair.
