Research Scientist
The Center for Myocardial Biology (CMB) and Vascular Medicine Institute (VMI) at the University of Pittsburgh are seeking an experienced Research Scientist to conduct small animal surgeon. The CMB comprises several principal investigators that focus on aspects of cardiac biology, ranging from basic investigations of function, to translational projects related to cardiac disease. The new Research Scientist will join our surgical core, and conduct high level research for CMB investigators with the provision of surgical rodent models of heart failure, myocardial infarction, and pulmonary hypertension.
(i) Collaborate with CMB principal investigators in the development of rodent cardiac disease models. (ii) Provide surgical services to CMB principal investigators, using rodent models of heart failure, myocardial infarction, and pulmonary hypertension. (iii) Provide support for ex vivo research, for example by assisting with primary cell isolation if required. (iv) Follow guidelines and protocols for animal work approved by the University of Pittsburgh, maintaining accurate records and a safe working environment.
Job Summary
Conducts independent scientific research projects from inception to presentation. Prepares and crafts various documentations of research results into manuscripts, proposals, grant applications, and presentations. Trains undergraduates and research technicians. Manages laboratory policies and coordinates project development in collaboration with other specialists.
Essential Functions
Must be able to work independently in a lab setting conducting high level research projects and surgical services to principal investigators.
Physical Effort
Must be able to stand for long periods of time. Must be able to move easily between labs and university offices. May requirement bending, standing, and light lifting of equipment.
