Research Assistant
Job Description
The laboratory of Developmental Disorders and Genetics at the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute is seeking a Research Assistant. The successful candidate will be expected to have knowledge of and acquire proficiency in molecular and cell biology techniques, including DNA technology, DNA genotyping (standard PCR), quantitative PCR (qPCR), and basic cell culture procedures. The candidate will be expected to participate in laboratory projects involving the application of basic molecular and cellular biology techniques as well as physiological measurements in mouse animal models. These projects include working with primary neuronal cell cultures. In addition, the position requires managing timed breeding of transgenic and mutant mouse lines and genotyping offspring for breeding stock as well as experimental data collection. This position will require basic organizational skills, including tracking workflow, maintaining detailed records and archiving data.
Required Qualifications
B.A./B.S. in Biology, Neuroscience, Chemistry, Engineering, or a related scientific field with an emphasis on laboratory sciences.
Excellent communication and organizational skills
Demonstrate solid detail orientation skills
Capable of working independently and as part of a team
Preferred Qualifications
M.S. in Biology, Neuroscience, Chemistry, Engineering or a related scientific field with an emphasis on laboratory sciences.
Demonstrated lab or project management experience.
Some experience in research lab, rodent animal research and basic molecular techniques preferred.
